TECHTOPIA: HUMANS & SMART TECHNOLOGY
Activation Campaign (Branding) ft. @MADA'24

We are the creators of our future.
Adopt to co-exist, adopt your future.

Speculating a future that is neither a utopia nor dystopia, I seek to juxtapose humans and smart technology by presenting to you - TECHTOPIA.
Sincerely,Catherine
Can we truly co-exist - humans and technology alike without a power imbalance?
My activation campaign explored the complexities of a rapidly evolving society in the digital age, accounting for the rise of smart technology with a relative focus on its connection with human intelligence.
Design Research Kit (DRK)
Printed on A5 card stock, my DRK kit acted as a tool in
co-designing my campaign centred around smart technology. Working towards
co-existence was an underlying theme, thus solidifying my campaign direction. Hence, I intended to transcend the boundaries between utopia and dystopia in this way.

Made By You, For You
This mural series takes a deeper dive into a specific research question from my DRK kit. I instructed participants to draw a piece of smart technology which they believed would be useful within their field of work, many interesting responses arose. This reinforced my campaign message of ‘adopt to co-exist’,
in which I wanted humans to realise they encompass creative power and freedom. Thus, easing their burdens among a rapidly developing technological era.

NFC Digital Version With Captcha
As a secondary concept in relation to the NFC sliding cards, I created human captcha cards as a performative means to acknowledge humans interacting with the riddles are not bots. These cards attach onto the back of smartphones. It acts as physical confirmation we are not bots, paired with tapping the smartphone on the NFC tag for digital access.
NFC Sliding Riddle Cards
The digital version can be accessed through an NFC tag, encouraging viewers to collaborate and cross-check how fast they can solve the riddles compared to using the internet.
This is similar to an artefact where one must reflect upon the rolling digital slideshow and self-reflect on their intelligence.

Smart Tech Monologue Poster Series
The ‘Ranking Smart Tech’ poster series delves into a general overview of smart technology which we use in our daily lives. It is framed as a somewhat humourous casual monolgue as a reflection of our inner thoughts regarding smart technology. A black and white visual style is deliberately employed to represent the constant back-and-forth contemplation around whether smart technology serves a positive impact. The colourful logo mark intends to break these thoughts as an advocate for a co-existent future, encouraging a more optimistic view of technology.
